The Outpost has made a surprisingly wide range of beer styles. In a flight of four tried by one patron in late summer, “There was a Wild Ale (Porch), a Sahti, and two Farmhouses (Cotyledon and Esopus).  All were good, easy-drinking beers, uncomplicated but refreshing.”

Hudson’s First Brewery Since Prohibition. Before 1920 Hudson boasted a rich beer culture, with several breweries and taprooms catering to the many gangsters, gamblers, and “working girls” who called the city home during that time. After prohibition outlawed the manufacture and sale of “intoxicating liquors” the city went without a brewery until 2015 when Hudson Brewing Company opened its doors. Just a short walk from the Hudson Amtrak station and riverfront park, you’ll find high-quality beers highlight New York State’s finest malt and hops with a taproom that provides guests with a variety of NYS wine and spirits.

To stand up to brewer Kayne Konecny’s strong double IPA, chef Bart Cummings has created a rib-eye with a green peppercorn and brandy cream sauce and a New York strip with a compound butter of black olives, black truffles, and herbs. He has a passion for lamb, which he sources from Vly Farm in Stone Ridge. Bart is also a bona fide ice cream genius whose signature flavors include tarragon, basil and hopped-up hempseed, a heavenly confection prepared by steeping whole-leaf hops in cream.

Over 20 years ago Tony, along with his two children Joey and Angela, ventured into the brewing industry by opening Dutchess County’s first Restaurant Brewery, the Hyde Park Brewing Company. It is and continues to be one of the Hudson Valley’s longest-running breweries. This warm, laid-back brewery features eight beers on tap, along with classic American pub fare with an Italian twist. Its craft brewery was also awarded Best in New York State for the Munchner Helles style.
